  Join Us at Ringneck Retreat

We offer guided hunts throughout the pheasant season as well as other hunting, fishing, and vacationing opportunities throughout the year. Other hunting includes snow goose, predator (coyote and fox), and deer. The calendar shown below highlights Ringneck Retreat’s availability. Please contact us for pricing or to make a reservation.

Pheasant hunting
South Dakota has three pheasant hunting seasons. The regular season opens the third Saturday in October and continues to December 31 or early January, as determined by the state. Youth can participate in a special two–day youth season, which occurs the first weekend in October.

Snow goose hunting
The spring snow goose season lasts approximately 5-8 weeks, and the fall season lasts 10 weeks. Due to large populations, snow geese have been destroying tundra regions, so a harvest is desirable to keep their numbers in check. The state permits large bag limits, with unlimited possession. If you wish to hunt snow geese, you’ll need to be flexible with your travel plans, as we’re never sure when their migration will take place. It’s worth the wait, however. We typically see flocks in the thousands or even tens of thousands. Non–residents who wish to hunt in the fall must apply for a fall waterfowl license, which is awarded on a lottery system.

Predator (Coyote and Fox) hunting
South Dakota allows hunting of coyotes and fox year round. If you are interested in joining us for a predator hunt, we recommend hunting between early January and mid to late March.

Mourning dove hunting
The mourning dove season begins September 1 and lasts until the birds migrate, sometime in October. This relaxing hunt involves mostly pass shooting, meaning we sit much more than we walk.

Fall waterfowl hunting
During the fall, we hunt ducks, snow geese, Canada geese, and ducks. You’ll be amazed at the incredible variety of ducks, including mallards, redheads, pintails, Canada specks, gadwalls, scaups (also known as bluebills), blue–wing teals, and green–wing teals.

Fishing
Within fifteen miles of Ringneck Retreat, you’ll find rivers as well as several small lakes to fish. If you wish to join us on a fishing expedition, we can plan a combination stay at Ringneck Retreat that also involves spending an evening either camping or at a cabin or lodge near one of our favorite fishing spots. From mid June to mid July, we fish for walleye at Lake Oahe, a part of the Missouri River located about an hour and a half from Ringneck Retreat. Or, we can fish for walleye or smallmouth bass at Lake Sharpe, another part of the Missouri River. If you’re interested in fishing, please contact us and we’d be happy to customize a guided trip to meet your request.
